Ontario's Ministry of Municipal Affairs (MMA) is seeking input on proposed changes to Ontario's Building Code targeted at increasing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in new multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs). The consultation also covers changes targeted at energy efficiency, large buildings and green technology. These proposed changes follow previous Ontario Building Code changes applicable to houses (excluding MURBs) and workplaces.
MMA's overview notes that a forthcoming consultation regarding proposed EV-supportive amendments to Ontario's Condominium Act, 1998 S.O. 1998, c. 19 will inform the outcome of the Building Code consultation. Condominium owners and residents often report significant barriers in accessing and installing EV charging.
